THE police have discovered a 40-year-old man in critical condition who is now under guard following self-inflicted slash wounds to his neck and wrists.
He was found beside his 41-year-old girlfriend’s body in a locked rental home in Taman Damai II, Batu Pahat, in what is now treated as a murder-suicide attempt. It is believed that he smothered the woman to death days earlier in a locked rental property.
Internal sweeps of the property led officers to a bedroom where the deceased woman was found on a bed next to the incapacitated suspect.
The grim find came after the woman’s family reported her missing for three days, prompting authorities to force entry with fire department assistance.
Initial investigations suggest the victim was smothered with a pillow on Tuesday (Jan 27) morning, while the suspect’s injuries occurred days earlier.
Local reports said police in the Batu Pahat District confirmed that the suspect’s injuries appeared to have been sustained several days before the discovery.
The family of the woman lodged a missing person’s report were alarmed after they were unable to contact her for three days.
Police are probing the motive under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, as the suspect receives medical treatment. — Jan 31, 2026
