X user questions the existence of a remote MRT station, the 16 Sierra

WHILE most people are indulging themselves in the Budget 2024 debate, we found an interesting post on the X platform.

User @slainthayer is talking about a remote MRT station, the 16 Sierra, which he says is so remote that the nearest civilisation to it is some 500 metres away and that it is practically impossible to walk to the station at night.

“In September, only 14,000 people used the MRT. Or just 450/day. It’s so bad, the second least used station literally has 2x the ridership of 16 Sierra. Exit data is estimated by doubling the entry data.”

“In terms of connectivity, there’s just nothing. Nada. No parking, no feeder bus, no Beam scooter, no Kumpool, nothing. The nearest buildings are 500m away. Walking to the station past maghrib (sunset) is not an option at all,” added the user.

The official explanation is that the 16 Sierra MRT Station serves the suburbs of 16 Sierra and Pulau Meranti in Selangor. It is one of the elevated stations on the MRT Putrajaya Line.

The station is located at 16 Sierra, strategically located in the southern part of Puchong better known as Puchong South. 16 Sierra is a well-planned residential township developed by Malaysia’s leading developer, IOI Properties Group.

The 16 Sierra MRT Station started operation on March 16, 2023 under phase two of the line.
