Xavier’s defection: Netizens troll Azmin Ali, remind him that voters are livid!

FOLLOWING former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar abrupt departure from the party, social media users turned their rage towards Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali after the latter tweeted a cryptic message.

1+1+1+…dan seterusnya. Alhamdulillah. Kekal tenang. (1+1+1+…and counting. Remain calm),” Azmin tweeted, seemingly referring to the three PKR MPs who had defected to support Bersatu.

However, social media users were unamused with Azmin’s message and hurled brickbats against the latter for playing politics during a health crisis.

Rakyat will send your career to a dead end. You may win now but not forever. Devil won’t stay long,” said a netizen called Resilient.

Another user called JASA SAM said: “Kata tenang tapi takut parlimen sidang.” (You say remain calm and yet, you’re still scared of the Parliament reconvening).

Earlier today, Jayakumar, who is also Kuala Langat MP, announced his departure from PKR citing frustrations with the recent turn of events.

“I will continue to serve my constituency and support the Government as an independent MP, and I’m confident that I can fulfill my election promises to the people of Kuala Langat,” he was reported saying.

He was the third MP to abandon PKR, following Larry Sng and Steven Choong’s departure from the party on Feb 28. The duo also signed Statutory Declarations (SD) to support Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin-led Perikatan (Perikatan) Nasional Government.

In the past, Jayakumar was known as an ally to then PKR-strongman Azmin, alongside Datuk Seri Zuraida Kamaruddin.

One social media user called Shanker reminded Azmin that the time will come where he would have to face voters once again.

“Not too far GE15 brother! (The) rakyat (is) watching,” he remarked. – March 13, 2021
