GROWING up, we may have heard it countless times over that vegetables are good for health.
But we can all agree that if said vegetables are prepared in some of the most unhygienic ways possible, health will be the last thing on our mind.
For starters, vegetables shouldn’t be dipped in water contaminated by human urine or sweat.
Take it from this video by netizen @MadaniNomics which showed a migrant worker submerged in a huge tub used for cleaning spinach.
In the one minute and a half video, a man could be seen scolding two of the workers for their behaviour.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some carry phones and a good conscience that makes us Malaysian proud.

Likely, the worker was trying to escape the heat of the afternoon sun by putting himself in the tub while he washed the vegetables.
But that is not a good excuse since the vegetables will end up on the plate of a fellow Malaysian.
Netizen @aifhaan further pointed to the colour of the water in the tub used for washing the vegetables, which were brown in colour.
“That is why I buy my vegetables at Jaya Grocer only. I don’t buy it somewhere else,” said @GeminiMan2026 while @kepalakoteyyy said this was what people meant by being organic.
Also, @SHAMMIM14 surmised that if the worker could take a dip in the tub, he would definitely pee in it too.

Netizen @arfabdim added that he now realizes why the vegetables at home smelled like boxers.

But an optimistic @dundunthetruth said this shouldn’t be a problem since the vegetables will be washed at home too.
While the video can be downright revolting, at least we now know why vegetables from the market taste a bit sweeter and more delicious compared to the ones painstakingly grown in our gardens.
Our self-grown vegetables might be missing several secret ingredients and these may be Bangladeshi urine and sweat, not forgetting the long, curly, unwashed hair from their private places. —Jan 12, 2026
