USING Arabic words, newly-minted Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi conveyed his profound gratitude to Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a gesture depicting that the UMNO president is probably more than willing to work with Anwar in this unity government.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman went on to liken trust as not ghanimah (spoils of war), but a taklif or an offer that comes with very heavy responsibilities.
On the other hand, he also asserts that his appointment to the second highest echelon of the government is not the result from “spoils of war”.
“This trust is not the spoils of war, but comes with a very heavy responsibility as the global economy is predicted to be very challenging next year,” he penned in his a Facebook posting soon after Anwar unveiled his Cabinet list.
He also extended gratitude to Anwar for the show of confidence in him and fellow BN colleagues to be part of the unity government.
Anwar did not elaborate as to why he included Zahid – the only court cluster leader to be included in the Cabinet with two portfolios (DPM and Rural Development Minister) – except stressing that the new cabinet will have to work hard to improve the economy as well as to work in unison under his leadership.
Apart from being grateful, Zahid also expressed optimism that the unity government is able to handle the challenges ahead for the sake of Malaysia and its people.
“But this can only be achieved with the condition that all parties must stop provocations and actions that provoke anger among the people,” he caveated while appealing to the opposition to cease their provocative actions.
“Do not disturb the order and unity of the community as well as the government’s efforts to improve the country’s economic performance from now on,” he pleaded. “We must stop political instability that has done so much damage to the country’s prosperity.”
A few hours earlier, Zahid also posted a video showing Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders speaking on the controversial Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
In the video clip, several PN leaders were seen giving guarantees that the Opposition will support the UEC. – Dec 3, 2022
