IN order to combat the Opposition’s divisive politics, UMNO’s president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has urged members to create a more progressive party with new ideas in advance of the organisation’s 77th anniversary.
“UMNO’s enemies have incessantly tried to spread propaganda against the party because they were uneasy with the party’s position, being part of the unity government,” claimed the Bagan Datuk MP.
Zahid urged the members to reignite the party’s spirit and ideals in accordance with its historical roots.
He also encouraged his party members to move forward with new political governance that is mature and fresh so that UMNO becomes a party with discipline, one that puts the party’s interests before individual interests.
He added that UMNO must be a party that is competent and efficient and one that can prove to the people that it will not let them down.
Moreover, the Deputy Minister noted that UMNO started out as a movement to champion noble causes and not as an “exclusive” club for the elite, the wealthy or businessmen.
“Diversity, in terms of race, creed, origins and professions, should be considered a strength instead of cause for division. Let us forge friendships in the spirit of togetherness in order to build a unified party,” he said.
Zahid also reminded his party that the 15th General Election showed them that democracy is not a given but a right of the people.
