PUTRAJAYA Umno deputy liaison chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has been suspended from the party for six years following his criticism against party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the latter’s decision to sever ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the next general election.
According to Malaysiakini, the decision was made by the Umno supreme council last night. Currently, the party is holding its annual general meeting (AGM).
The suspension letter, signed by Umno secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, indicated that Tun Faisal was suspended for breaching party discipline.
Tun Faisal is among the faction within Umno who is seen to favour ties with Bersatu. According to Utusan Malaysia, the former Special Affairs Department (Jasa) director’s axing was claimed to have been orchestrated by Putrajaya Umno liaison chief, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Last week, Zahid announced that he would take action against party members who are leaking sensitive party information to Bersatu.
While it may seem that Tun Faisal was sacked for breaching party discipline, MalaysiaNow had reported on March 5 that Tengku Adnan was miffed with his deputy for being in favour of Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to contest the Putrajaya parliamentary seat in the next polls.
Tengku Adnan was claimed to be promoting his son, Tengku Iqbal for the seat as the former is now embroiled in corruption charges. – March 28, 2021.
