Zahid withdraws motion to suspend Wan Saiful after his open apology to Agong, PM

THE government has retracted its motion to suspend Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan from the Dewan Rakyat for six months.

This is after the Bersatu lawmaker used the opportunity by Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to apologise to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim whose name Wan Saiful had allegedly misused when debating the motion of thanks on the Royal Address on Feb 28.

“I admit that the sentence I said in my speech was aimed at Tambun (Anwar). I retract the statement made on Feb 28 and 29 and I also apologise for making the remarks,” Wan Saiful told the lower House today (March 5).

“I also apologise for my mistake of touching on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in my speech and retract my statement on that.”

Johari then proceeded to accept the Tasek Gelugor MP’s apology and asked Parliament to move on from the incident.

“This means that Tasek Gelugor has apologised to Tambun and has retracted his statement, that’s one,” Johari noted while addressing Zahid in Parliament.

“Secondly, Tasek Gelugor has also sought to apologise to the Agong. For that I will accept, minister, I take it as we can resolve this matter since an open apology has been made, I hope minister you can accept this apology as well.”

Zahid proceeded to retract the motion that was listed as first in the matters of the Order Paper today following Question Time.

“I would like to retract the motion stated as number one in the order of matters for today,” Zahid told Parliament. – March 5, 2024
