Zaid Ibrahim called out by netizens for complaining about a “rich man’s” problem

RECENTLY, lawyer and former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim tweeted that he was unsatisfied with being a country club member where such country clubs allegedly prioritise the owners and would shove other members away if necessary. He then went on to complain about the wealth inequality in this country. However, netizens are not taking too kindly to his remarks.Just a few days ago, he made several statements directed at the Madani government.

Following the Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Merdeka message, he encouraged the PM to listen attentively, avoid snap judgements, and understand that outdated racial views extend beyond specific regions. He also emphasised the importance of acknowledging that racism manifests not only in words but also in actions. However, this time his rant was directed at the government for not focusing on removing “class-based discrimination.” He then adds that politicians are selling themselves short by focusing on wealth more than fixing the country. All while discussing his time in a lavish country club.

Twitter users were not happy with his remarks. They stated that he is already in a highly privileged position to be able to afford membership in a prestigious country club.

(Wealthy people get upset when others become wealthier? Phew. It’s like something out of a Korean drama.)

(Even wealthy people complain and seek government intervention to maintain their luxurious lifestyle. Sue them. You’re a lawyer, right? Legal trench.) – Sept 3, 2023
