ZURICH Malaysia has donated RM160,000 to Selayang Hospital to be used for the purchase of urgently needed medical ventilators to boost the hospital’s patient treatment capacity.
Zurich General Takaful CEO Nazrul Hisham said the funds are channelled from the surplus pool of its general takaful business.
He added that it is part of the company’s practice to contribute a cumulative amount from the excess in the Tabarru’ fund on behalf of the participants to philanthropic or life-saving causes.
“In view of the current situation, we decided to contribute to the Malaysian healthcare sector when we were made aware of the shortage of essential healthcare equipment,” he said in a statement today.
Nazrul added that Zurich’s healthcare workers on the frontlines have been, and are, working very hard to contain and overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We hope more can step in to play their part. We believe that when corporates and citizens cooperate with the public sector in times of need, we can help ease the burden on public healthcare,” he added. — March 24, 2020, Bernama
