Wood skewers dipped in flavour anyone? Netizens say no

THERE seems no end to the viral food. What’s more, they get more and more ridiculous as time goes by. From eating maggi at the side of the road or having to bring your own bag of nachos to be served, the list goes on.

Lately, however, it’s nothing but bare wood skewers immersed in flavouring which got the online community’s mouth flapping.

In a video post on X by netizen mhmmdhsm, a street vendor could be seen dipping wooden skewers in cans with flavouring which ranged from chocolate, strawberry and more.

According to the conversation in the video, the vendor has been running this business since 2013. Observing the video, much could be said about hygiene where food preparation is considered.

“Hopefully people don’t follow him and sell five sticks at RM60 for using Jewish chocolate,” said mhmmdhsm.

Another netizen sarcastically added that if this is to arrive at Malaysian shores, the homemade chocolate on stick with premium flavour imported from Brazil would probably cost RM80 or RM79.90 for a limited time offer.

“This is because some fools are willing to pay to try it,” said Ronnie.

The sarcasm was just ramping up. 𝕵𝖆𝖓𝖌 said he would sell the skewers with Belgium and Swiss chocolate.

“It is expensive, brother, because the cocoa is grown in Israel,” said Awang Asyraf.

One netizen further claimed that if the word, “homemade” is added into the dish, it will automatically become expensive.

We don’t intend to judge but we do feel that the bare-to-the-bone dish could do with a little content besides the insignificant layer of flavouring.

However, it does remind us of the snacks students would buy right after being released from school, although even those rudimentary meals had more substance.

Would the wooden skewers with flavouring become the new food trend in Malaysia? Hopefully not. —Jan 13, 2025
