New COVID-19 cases in Malaysia continues to decrease

AS of Saturday (April 23), the number of new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia now stands at 6,342, which is a slight decrease from earlier this week, with the inclusion of 20 imported cases.

This brings the country’s total number of cases to 4,421,443 since the pandemic began.

The number of COVID-19 deaths also continues to decrease, with 12 casualties reported within the last 24 hours including two who were brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 35,482.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 9,111 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the number to a total of 4,300,558 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak started.

The number of hospital beds being used around the country has reached 60.1%, with the intensive care units (ICUs) at 52.9% capacity.

Currently, 91 people are being treated in ICUs with most of them (61) in need of ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country is still on a downward trend, standing at 85,403 with 97.8% of them (83,528) being subjected to home quarantine. – April 23, 2022
