Report: Helicopter “Nasi Ganja” suspect to be charged on May 9, police say

THE suspect in the case of an unknown individual sending a helicopter to pick up orders of Ipoh’s famed “Nasi Ganja” is scheduled to be charged at the Ipoh Magistrate Court on May 9.

According to Free Malaysia Today, the police said they have completed the investigation on the incident which took place in July last year and the papers have been send to the public prosecutor.

Bukit Aman CID chief, Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said the authorities were instructed to charge the suspect under the Civil Aviation Regulations, for failing to follow the submitted flight plan when landing an aircraft at a location other than the aerodrome specified.

If found guilty, the suspect would be facing three years imprisonment, up to RM50,000 in fine, or both.

In July last year, when the movement control order (MCO) was in effect, a Bell 505 helicopter landed at the Ipoh field to pick up 36 packets of the city’s famous nasi kandar, dubbed “Nasi Ganja”, which was ordered by customers in Kuala Lumpur.

Back then, Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid was reported to have said the suspect had been granted a travel permit by the Selangor police to allow the helicopter to travel to Ipoh on a “maintenance round”.

The helicopter’s owner, Mohamed Raffe Chekku, had insisted then that he broke no law in making the trip. – May 2, 2022.
