“Enough with the self-praise”: Netizens chide Muhyiddin for claiming “COVID-19 victory”

TWO days ago, former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Malaysians are able to go back to normal lives now due to efforts taken by the Government for start of the pandemic.

While, he credited the people for being committed and disciplined in adhering to COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) for the past two years, Muhyiddin said the measures taken by the Government should be lauded for the success in combatting the coronavirus.

“For example, the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) saw almost a 100% uptake on vaccination among the populace.

“And I’m also glad that the Government took up some of the recommendations made by the National Recovery Council (NRC), chaired by me, such as reopening our borders and transitioning ourselves to endemic phase on April 1,” he said in his Hari Raya address.

However, netizens were unimpressed with Muhyiddin’s statement and took to social media to deride the Pagoh MP.

Bongok namanya tu.. Masa jadi Piyem ntah apa yang dibuatnya,” said user Mr Nice Guy.

(He is an imbecile. God knows what he was doing during his premiership)

Echoing his sentiments, user Ramdan JR added: “Selepas rakyaat terpaksa korek duit epf sendiri utk menerus hidup mereka!!!”

(The people had to dig up their own EPF savings to get by)

Netizen Azazim retorted: Yes, done claim. Tapi masih ada yg percaya.”

(Yes, claim credit for it…unfortunately, many still believe in him)

During the pandemic, while Muhyiddin was initially credited for taking swift action to lockdown the country following the infamous Sheraton Move, he was later panned for not providing sufficient aid to the public who had lost jobs and income.

Credit Dzulkefly too

The anger against him was so vivid that the public to took social media to criticise his administration, viralling hashtags such as #KerajaanGagal, #KerajaanPembunuh and #KerajaanBangsat.

It was during the hardship that two online movements started – the first being the White Flag Movement where citizens who are in need of food and other supplies waved white flags outside their homes, so that others could come and provide for them.

The other was the Black Flag Movement, which was aimed at urging Muhyiddin to resign over his failure to handle the economic crisis triggered by COVID-19.

On that note, user Amer Hustler said that Malaysia would have regained normalcy without Muhyiddin, as the-then Pakatan Harapan Government had the capable Dzulkefly Ahmad helming the Health Ministry.

Kalau awal maknanya sejak drpd zaman Dr. Dzul lagi.

“If you’re talking about the early stages, then you should include Dr Dzulkefly in it. If it was not for your treachery, we could have come out of the pandemic earlier. Your evil moves resulted in the country going on auto-pilot for nearly two weeks when the tabligh cluster wreaked havoc) – May 3, 2022
