“No more FT Ministry, dept now under PM,” says Chief Secretary to Govt

THE Federal Territories Ministry has been converted to a department under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department, announced Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

This was announced following a briefing by the department for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall headquarters earlier today.

According to Zuki, the newly-coined Federal Territories Department is spearheaded by Datuk Seri Rosida Jaafar who was previously the Federal Territories Ministry’s secretary-general.

“The briefing to the prime minister regarding the latest administrative structure of the Federal Territories Department was delivered by (Rosida) as the department’s director-general,” Zuki said in a Facebook post.

“The council is a platform between the top authorities of the Federal Territories Department and MPs of the Federal Territories to discuss vital issues and proposed implementation of development policies for citizens, especially those in the Federal Territories.”

The Federal Territories in Malaysia comprises Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan.

When Anwar’s Cabinet lineup was announced on Dec 2, many netizens had observed that it lacked a Federal Territories minister.

However, the Prime Minister’s Office had announced that a relevant minister would be announced on a later date.

The ministry, which was established in 1979, was last led by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim as minister prior to the dissolution of Parliament in October. – Dec 22, 2022
