JUSTICE for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak must not be delayed any further, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
He said people want to know about the outcome of the investigation into Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali and whether there were any evidence of conflict of interest and breach of ethics that could result in the latter being prosecuted.
According to Puad, it has been 21 days since Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman’s announcement that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) report on Mohd Nazlan relating to a regulatory breach under the Judges’ Code of Ethics 2009 has been handed to Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.
“Is it fair that justice for Najib has been delayed? Is it fair that no action was taken before the decision of the judicial review in Najib’s SRC International Sdn Bhd case has been made?” he questioned via a post on Facebook.
“The people want to know if it is true that the investigation into Mohd Nazlan indicated that there is indeed a conflict of interest and a breach of ethics. This is why the outcome of MACC’s investigation should be made public.”
On April 23 last year, local newspapers reported that MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that they had begun an investigation into Mohd Nazlan relating to allegations of unexplained monies in his account.
Mohd Nazlan was the judge who sentenced Najib to 12 years in prison and a fine of RM210 mil after finding him guilty of seven charges related to the misappropriation of RM42 mil of SRC International funds.
In his appeal in the Federal Court, Najib was prevented from arguing that Mohd Nazlan was under a serious conflict of interest when presiding over the trial as the latter had previously worked in Maybank as its general counsel and purportedly had dealings with 1MDB.
Najib lost the final appeal and is currently serving his sentence at Kajang prison. – March 13, 2023
