What happens if Najib is freed by the pardon board? The internet answers

TWITTER users are asking themselves what will happen if former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak is freed from the SRC International prison sentence by the Pardon Board.

For some, a freed Najib will contribute to the political gains of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) unity government.

User @TheRealBobssย brought up two scenarios that he feels could be the most appropriate in the event Najib is pardoned.

Translated from the Malay language, he said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whom some call Bang Non, is now in a situation (of pain) similar to when his mother and father passed away. He’s not afraid to face any obstacles.

“If Najib is released, there are 2 scenarios:- 1) He can bring the support of the Malay people to the government where UMNO is now part of the government.

“2) Najib can also be a burden to the government where the opposition will use this issue (of pardon) by claiming that the government intervened to free Najib. The previous scenario was PH using Najib as a bullet to win the GE15. The current scenario is now different from PH needs..”

The post on Twitter attracted many comments.

User @TokRaja9 said:

“The King’s pardon has its terms and conditions .. it does not happen just like that.. Najib has already lost 13-1.. (the number of judges against him). His prison term has not even reached the minimum limit to be considered for pardon.. get real.. what clause do you want to free Najib?,” the user argued.

Meanwhile user @HudSalihudin added it is not easy for Najib to bring Malay support to the current government.

“Do these people think the support of the Malays is that easy and cheap?” he asked.

“So just because it is Najib, the Malays will give support? When UMNO lost badly in GE14 the time when Najib was free and in GE15 when UMNO was punished by the PN government?,” he wrote.

His point is simple. Najib is not a barometer to use to get Malay support. The past elections show that Najib’s influence has dwindled, he argued. โ€” April 9, 2023
