Letter to editor
I REFER to media reports pertaining to the subject of UMNO Youth wanting DAP to apologise for its past allegations against the party.
While the UMNO president (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) has said there is no need for any apology as all matters were resolved prior to coming together to form the unity government, its deputy president (Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan) is quoted to have said that the UMNO Youth’s demand is good.
It bewilders me as to what is the salient and implicit message that both the youth leader and the deputy president are trying to convey to the masses.
As the UMNO president and its Wanita chief (Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad) have emphasised, Barisan Nasional (BN) which is led by UMNO is no longer a dominant party having lost both the 14th General Election (GE14) and GE15.
The president further reiterated that it is best to find common grounds rather than harp on differences, and that DAP has already agreed to UMNO’s main terms in forming the unity government.

As an integral part of the Madani government, all coalition parties must work together to strengthen the national administration in order to forge ahead and lead the nation to greater prosperity.
Our beloved nation is facing many challenges in many fronts and it require the understanding and support of all parties and the rakyat as a whole.
Let us keep our egos aside and forgive and forget the past as all parties are equally guilty of making all kinds of allegations in the past – and this is not confined to only DAP.
Let us be reminded of the adage menang sorak kampung tergadai which translates to winning the battle but losing the war.
Magnanimity is demanded from all parties without exception. – June 9, 2023
