PRIME Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Yang Di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and the Malay Rulers are firmly supporting the government’s initiatives to strengthen governance and eradicate corruption from the country.
Anwar made this statement following an audience with the King at Istana Negara.
The Tambun MP noted the collective responsibility of leaders and civil servants in combating corruption, urging them to work together to make Malaysia a shining example and elevate its standing as a great nation.
“This morning, I was granted an audience with His Majesty the King at Istana Negara. His Majesty supports and wants to back the (government’s) measures to improve governance and cleanse the country from corrupt practices.
“I think this is a good opportunity (to do so). I want to call on all civil servants to provide the best service possible.
“I am confident that Malaysia’s dignity will be elevated if we use the right policies and cleanse it from corrupt practices,” Bernama quoted him as saying during a state-level Madani programme at Kem Wawasan Negara, Ulu Sepri, yesterday (Feb 1).
Moreover, the PM underscored the commitment to preventing power and the governance system from being exploited for personal wealth accumulation, stating that such practices must be halted to serve as a lesson for future generations.
“Leaders should bear the responsibility as a mandate. The success of the PM or Finance Minister must not be measured by how many billions of ringgit they can amass.”
Throughout his one-year administration, Anwar stated that he refrained from interfering in the actions of institutions such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Inland Revenue Board.
He assured that decisions made by the judiciary were treated with the same respect, highlighting his commitment to the rule of law.
“That is why I give full authority to the MACC; I do not give instructions to arrest individual A or search the house of individual B. I give general instructions. To save the country, we must go after the big fish as a deterrent so that all these do not happen again.” – Feb 2, 2024
