DEPUTY Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching expressing her support for the Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s call for a thorough investigation of the allegations of alleged assault on a disabled e-hailing driver, said she hoped appropriate legal action would be taken.
The driver claimed he was assaulted by an escort from a prominent individual’s entourage in Kuala Lumpur, recently.
“I hope the PDRM can complete the investigation as soon as possible, and if there are elements of crime, please bring the culprit to court as soon as possible,” she told reporters when they met at the 2024 VegRun Community Charity Run here as reported by Bernama.
Teo said the call for an investigation was in line with constitutional principles and laws practiced in this country, adding that a transparent investigation is important so that all parties understand that the constitution and laws of the country must be respected and practiced.
She said the Johor Regent’s wisdom is evident in the statement, and she believed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) would conduct a transparent investigation.
Teo, who is also the Kulai MP, urged the public to stop speculating about the incident.
On Friday (May 31), Tunku Mahkota Ismail was reported to have urged the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the May 28 incident to ensure justice for the victim.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has also advised the public to stop speculating and let the police investigate the case.
He stated that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has already commented that an investigation will be conducted.
“Speculation will not help the investigation, and we leave it to the authorities. If at the end of the investigation, actions need to be taken, including bringing anyone to court, we will leave it to the AGC (Attorney- General’s Chambers).” – June 2, 2024
