AT least a thousand people, including Malaysians and foreigners, rallied in Bukit Bintang on Saturday (June 1) to express solidarity with Palestinians and protest against Israel’s brutality in Gaza.
The rally, organised by Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia, was the latest in a series of pro-Palestinian protests held in the country perhaps in a bid to revive the boycott of some foreign fast-food brands in the country.
Protesters, carrying placards in some instances, were seen gathering at a fast-food outlet before marching to the main entrance of a shopping centre at the heart of the city.
Some were seen with their keffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian scarf, chanting, ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ to demand freedom for Palestine. – June 2, 2024
