Gruesome stabbing in KL mall raises concern about security issues

A MALAYSIAN man, who goes by the name Wayne, was brutally attacked with a tiger claw knife during a robbery attempt inside a restroom at a Kuala Lumpur mall. The incident occurred last Sunday, leaving Wayne with a 2-3cm hole in his head.

According to sources, the assailant, an unknown individual, approached Wayne in the restroom, standing suspiciously close despite other urinals being vacant.

As Wayne exited, the attacker struck, initiating a violent confrontation. Wayne bravely fought back although security guards reportedly did not intervene.

“I heard that the action of the attempted robbery was not captured on CCTV. The only thing captured was the physical fight and him running away. It might not amount to a solid case,” Wayne said.

The attacker is scheduled to be charged today under Section 392 of the Penal Code. Wayne was discharged from the hospital yesterday, recovering from his injuries.

However, the incident has left netizens shocked at the violence and the inaction of the guards on duty.

An X user blamed malls for playing loud music in toilet areas and in parking lots, adding that the sound is so loud that if you were to scream, no one would hear you.

Another user advised mall goers not to be alone at the toilets with all that is happening here. Having a friend accompany one is ideal, the user said.

On the other hand, some users thought the attack was premeditated, as it was a daring attack in a public area. Others are concerned that the security guards did not intervene during the attack. – July 20, 2024
