Exploding ear buds take the headline after fire starting power banks

IT appears lately that the cyberspace is being dominated by exploding electronic devices from power banks to now, earbuds, or more specifically the Galaxy Buds FE.

According to netizen Xavier Naxa in a post on X, a teenager from Adana, Türkiye reported that the Galaxy Buds FE suddenly exploded in his lover’s ear, causing permanent hearing damage.

The teenager added that he bought the Galaxy Buds FE and immediately tried it out with a remaining battery power of 36% right after opening the box.

Xavier Nana reported that Samsung said the earbud did not explode but rather had defects, and has since offered to provide a replacement out of goodwill.

The teenager said he has all the documents including invoice, medical report and receipt.

Xavier Nana added that it was not certain whether the teenager took lawful action. Also, it has not been confirmed whether a report had been made or not.

Looking through Samsung social media pages on various platforms, it appears that the organisation has yet to make a statement regarding this incident.

However, many netizens have voiced their concern, with not a few linking Samsung devices to explosives.

Another netizen theorised that the earbuds will get hot if used directly after removing it from the box, having done so previously.

However, the netizen claimed the earbuds should be cool if they are charged first until full.

Kimchi Masak Lemak said it was pointless for Samsung to issue a replacement to the victim since permanent damage to the ear makes the person unable to hear in the first place.

Does Samsung want the earbuds to explode in the other ear and make both ears deaf?

One netizen cynically said Samsung’s business development team can now explore another avenue for income which was explosives for defence purposes.

Now that this is said, perhaps Samsung could come up with a product to augment a women’s arsenal besides the regular pepper spray.

Sounds ominous, but an explosive device that deters perverts, rapists and snatch thieves would be very useful in this increasingly hostile world. – Sept 27, 2024
