FOLLOWING the mass food poisoning case at MRSM Taiping, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has taken another step further by performing a spot check on MRSM Mersing.
In a video post on X, Dr Asyraf Wajdi could be seen examining the ingredients in the canteen, having candid conversation with students as well as getting feedback from them.

One of the scenes even showed him weighing the fishes used to prepare meals for the students only to find them half the weight than what was required.
Dr Asyraf jokingly suggested to the students who were making a beeline to demand two fishes to compensate for this.
When a student was asked to provide some feedback for improvement, one of them cheekily suggested adding chicken pox as a new menu item.
Netizens in the post further asked for updates regarding the infamous canteen operator from MRSM Taiping, Datin Nurul Amira Binti Ahmad Yunan, who said, “Can we stop lizards from defecating, doctor?”
Dr Asyraf promptly replied that her contract had ended and the process is underway to take lawful action to sue and demand compensation at the court.
His actions thus far has earned him quite a bit of brownie points from cyberspace with many netizens giving the thumbs up.
One netizen said it was wonderful to watch those entrusted to perform their duty doing their job well and with responsibility.
Netizen IK’s Nowadays called for Dr Asyraf to also perform a spot check on MRSM Kuala Berang, Terengganu, claiming that there were about two to three cases of food poisoning every year.
IK’s Nowadays added that the canteen and kitchen of the dormitory has received too many complaints.
Referring to one of the students who suggested a new menu by the name of chicken pox, netizen SB said the entire MRSM students may have to sit at home if such a meal was to be served.
To Datuk Asyraf, we say kudos for the initiative to make canteens a safe place for the students.
Also, we hope canteen operators will take his spot checks as motivation to improve their services, and not as an opportunity to give excuses like, “Can we stop lizards from defecating, doctor? – Sept 27, 2024
