Alam Budiman volunteers block road to prevent congestion, gets slammed by netizens

IT isn’t news to find the occasional roadblocks made by police officers or traffic authorities. But when the roadblock is conducted by a group of volunteers, expect something interesting to happen.

In a video post on X by netizen #UpdateInfo, a group of residents from Alam Budiman could be seen forming a roadblock, forbidding vehicles from entering Lane 76 of Taman Alam Budiman.

“What happens if we enter?” #UpdateInfo wondered.

Little else could be derived from the video besides the many cars which were redirected by the volunteer squad.

According to netizen Pja in the comment section, the reason why the roadblock was created was because the cars were taking a shortcut by entering the residential area (red line).

Pja said the drivers should use the green line as highlighted in the map she provided. She added that the residents were frustrated as they were facing a traffic jam in front of their homes during the evening.

However, the majority of the netizens were up against this unauthorised roadblock.

Wild Orchid inquired if they had a permit to close the road.

“You think you can just close up a road like this? Show the permit from the authorities and permission from the police and firemen first,” said Wild Orchid.

Another netizen said the people of Alam Budiman use a shortcut to Setia City Mall by passing the Setia Alam apartments.

“If they make a roadblock near Jalan Sierra Alam, the shortcut at the back, then you will have to turn to the Setia City Mall,” claimed the netizen.

Petai made a strong point that if the drivers paid their road taxes, they have every right to use the public road.

As much as we applaud the community spirit displayed by the residents of Alam Budiman, we do believe that traffic jams are a common occurrence that the people of Selangor need to endure.

The public road belongs to the public and should be kept that way. – Oct 18, 2024
