Car catches fire after collision; fire extinguishers can come in handy for motorists

A VIDEO of a car catching fire post-collision has gone viral. In it, the young lady driver can be seen trying to divert traffic away from her vehicle which was badly dented and facing the wrong direction.

It is unclear if it was the result of a collision with another vehicle or from impact with the road barrier.

A driver of a 4×4 vehicle did stop and attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher but alas, the flames only seemed to grow bigger! At which point, the gallant gentleman beat a hasty retreat.

Eventually, the fire that had started in the bonnet began to engulf the entire vehicle, probably leaving the vehicle owner with a sticky insurance claim.

The clip was shared by X user @anthraxxx781 and has generated 742.3K views at time of publication.

Many netizens wondered why nobody was willing to help. With one questioning the person who recorded the video for not having the sense to lend a helping hand.

It is believed that the person who recorded the video was on board a bus who could not get through, leading to netizens asking why the bus driver did not seek to help as all buses and lorries are required to have fire extinguishers.

With one commenter perhaps hitting the nail on the head when it was observed that today’s culture is “record first, think of how to help later”.

Another counselled that it is better to just let the car burn and claim total loss. “Less headaches” was the sound advice.

The one motorist who did try to help was commended for his bravery though his efforts proved futile.

More than a few used this video to highlight the need for a mini (1kg or 2kg) fire extinguisher in the car with one pointing out that it didn’t cost much.

One netizen outlined the proper procedure when faced with such an emergency.

A step-by-step for such instances was also provided by a blog posted by firefighter.com.my.

All said and done, perhaps it should be made mandatory for all car owners to have a fire extinguisher. Better be safe than sorry. – Dec 26, 2024
