E-HALING services have very much become the norm these days with many Malaysians preferring to leave their cars at home to avoid the twin hassles of navigating traffic snarls and searching for elusive parking.
This was precisely the thoughts of KV SUPER DRIVER who shared his harrowing experience of taking a Grab ride with a driver who was apparently out of sorts.
He recounted that he and his family were intent on sending his eldest child to a sports event and thought it’d be wise to e-hail a cab ride given the rainy weather and traffic conditions.
The man said he was suspicious upon entering the white Proton Saga as it smelled weird. But he let it slide as he did not want his son to miss the sports meet.
But his worries became more evident when the Grab driver was revving the engine without engaging the gear. When told, the driver responded in loud, manic laughter which further raised the poster’s suspicions that something was amiss.
Things got much worse when the Grab driver finally got the car moving as he sped recklessly along, swerving into cars and motorcyclists.
The terrified passenger and his family screamed for the driver to stop but to no avail till he finally forced the passenger to bring the ride to an abrupt halt by pulling on the handbrake.
The harrowing episode was shared on X by social media influencer JalalMisai (@jllmisai) who warned others to be wary of this Grab driver who appears to be of Indian descent but his Grab ID bears a Chinese name.
Hati-hatilah.. Macamana pemandu berbangsa India tapi guna id nama Cina..? Dia sewa id orang lain ke..? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/V5nc33YvX2

Many netizens reacted in horror as the man’s family had been put in mortal danger with one asking how this managed to escape the so-called Grab’s stringent filtering process?
Another demanded action from the e-hailing company as it endangered lives.
However, quite a few were curious why did the Malay passenger adopt a Chinese slang when admonishing the Indian driver in the video clip?
Regarding the questionable Grab driver’s ID, one netizen claimed it was open to abuse as different drivers take shifts using the same vehicle, phone and ID.
All said and done, it is imperative that e-hailing service providers tighten up their screening process while striving to take severe action against errant drivers.
This should not just be limited to blacklisting but such reckless drivers must be reported to the authorities who can then suspend their licenses alongside other punitive measures.
