Netizen reveals frightening AI potential at making extremely realistic photos

WILL graphic designers and videographers be looking for a new profession in the near future?

It would seem that the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has reached a new level and it is frightening.

Recently, netizen @BaqirNajh went viral for posting several exceedingly realistic photos of him and his family vacationing in a foreign land.

Shockingly, he claimed that none of these photos were real.

Looking at the photos, anyone could have accepted it as it is if not for the owner revealing that they were AI-generated.

Ever since, a good number of netizens have cautioned about the dangers of AI which could be used to scam, slander or even to steal other people’s identity.

“The era of AI is becoming more frightening. I think I will never believe anyone’s social media again until I meet them in real life. Sorry, you do not exist,” said @KasihSirna.

Netizen @fiqah_yasin added this was why artists and graphic designers have protested against the use of AI to make pictures since 2021. “It can be used to slander,” she said.

Reinforcing her words were @RandomHistoryG4 who said, “Man, blackmailers and scammers are going to have a field day.”

Then there was @Mohdfaiz13 who bluntly stated the end of graphic design with his statement, “Bye² Photoshop.”

To better elucidate the power of AI in generating fake images, netizen @dlwrmaiu99 showed how he used chatgpt to create an image of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey delivering a fictitious food product to a customer in Malaysia.

Several netizens also pointed out that the AI-generated images were good, but not entirely perfect.

On a lighter note, @aidanchin said he knew the image was fake because the Malays do not eat vegetarian meals.

Then there was @moodyviscacha who lamented the fact that the AI made every Malay face with guava-shaped noses.

As AI becomes more and more advanced, perhaps we too must fight fire with fire?

Netizen @NaimFathullah sums up the possible future with his pertinent question asking if there was any app available that helps people differentiate between what is AI generated and not. —Mar 30, 2025
