PMX’s senior aide trolled for throwing lavish feast to celebrate victory as PKR division head

PAS information chief Fadhli Shaari has taken a swipe at senior political secretary to the prime minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin for throwing a lavish thanksgiving feast after the latter won the PKR division polls last month.

“This Parti Derita (literally suffering party) is great for even the thanksgiving feast to celebrate the winning of its division head was so lively,” teased the Pasir Mas MP in response to a Facebook post by Shamsul Iskandar on the event which took place at a hotel in Melaka recently.

“As this is only for a (minor) party position, one wonders where did the funding come from? May all PH-BN (Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional) supporters back them up.”

For the record, Shamsul Iskandar who was the former Hang Tuah Jaya MP secured a landslide victory in the PKR Hang Tuah Jaya division chief election on April 12.

The PKR International Bureau chairman and former deputy primary industries minister garnered 1,995 votes to defeat incumbent Mohd Rafee Ibrahim who received 736 votes.

Among distinguished PKR leaders who attended the dinner event organised by the party’s Hang Tuah Jaya branch was Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the Selangor PKR leadership.

As pro-opposition commenters chided PKR as “Parti Kelentong Rakyat” and “Parti Kencing Rakyat” for its extravagant, one postulated that “if PAS/Bersatu were to do the same, they would have been condemned a long time ago!”

“They’ll do anything within their means whilw still in power! They aren’t fighting for the government but fighting for positions and power!” lamented the commenter.

Another netizen boldly remarked that PMX Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is also the PKR president must have given the green light “to celebrate the success of senior PKR leaders”.

“The important thing is to talk here and there about combating abuse of power and eliminating corruption completely. In reality, it is hoped that the rakyat can evaluate for themselves the outcome.”

Ironically, the trolling was not limited to opposition backers as even some presumably PKR supporters also voiced their dismay at the lavish feast when the money spent could have been better channelled to assist the underprivileged.

One farsighted commenter dreaded that at the rate PKR is evolving, the party might “in 10 years’ time suffer the same fate as UMNO which is now living a shameful life”.

“It took UMNO 40-50 years to come to this stage. It started to rot in mid-1990s. Started by the same person who leads PKR now when he formed Team Wawasan to bring down Tun Ghafar Baba,” he recounted.

“Now it took PKR less than 20 years to reach the same rotten stage. Spearheaded by the very same person.” – May 15, 2025
