Bursa Malaysia’s key index remains positive at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at mid-afternoon with an upbeat momentum supported by all indices across the board.

As the market resumed, the key index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 2.69% or 32.75 points to 1,325.89 from yesterday’s close of 1,291.14.

On the broader market, gainers outpaced losers 510 to 352, while 357 counters were unchanged, 799 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Turnover spiked to 3.30 billion shares worth RM1.97 bil compared with 285.69 million shares worth RM136.70 mil at the opening.

Across indices, small and mid-sized cap stocks continued to show positive momentum with high interest from investors especially linked to energy index, while almost all top 30 companies recorded gains.

Among heavyweights, Public Bank led the gains adding 70 sen to RM15.94, followed by Tenaga Nasional which rose by 32 sen to RM12.14.

Meanwhile, IHH was 20 sen higher at RM5.12, CIMB increased 15 sen to RM3.54

Consumer products and services dominated the top gainers today with PPB leading the pack after climbing RM1.06 to RM16.98, Carlsberg gained RM1.40 to RM22.90, Heineken up RM1.04 to RM21.70, and Nestle increased 70 sen to RM135.20.

Of the actives, oil and gas-related counters continued to shine with Hibiscus increasing 2 sen to 33 sen and Bumi Armada adding one sen to 13.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index surged 231.27 points to 8,974.00, the FBM 70 gained 244.31 points to 9,943.04 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index garnered 261.92 points to 9,733.04.

The FBMT 100 Index increased by 230.75 points to 8,919.99 and the FBM Ace rose 61.08 points to 3,613.23.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index added 2.07 points to 99.39, the Plantation Index recovered 105.45 points to 5,939,63 and the Financial Services Index was 209.93 points better at 12,205.42. – March 25, 2020, Bernama
