FORMER DAP lawmaker and election strategist Ong Kian Ming has projected a landslide victory for BN in the upcoming Johor state election, predicting that PH could be reduced to just three seats.
In his electoral analysis, Ong forecast that BN would secure 53 of the 56 state seats, leaving PH with the remaining three. He also expects PN to fail to win a single seat.
The projection was based on voting patterns recorded during the 2022 general election, as well as what Ong described as the current political landscape in Johor.
According to him, PH has struggled to establish a compelling campaign narrative throughout the election period.
He also pointed to the coalition’s failure to name its chief minister candidate early and the late launch of its election manifesto as factors that may have weakened its campaign.
Ong further argued that PN’s prospects have been undermined by the deteriorating relationship between PAS and Bersatu, making it difficult for the coalition to mount a serious challenge in the state.
Note that a commanding BN victory in Johor could have wider political implications, potentially generating momentum ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1.
Ong added that such an outcome could also accelerate calls for the dissolution of Parliament, paving the way for the 16th General Election. —July 3, 2026
