Horror video captures the terrible effects of shroom overdose in a teenager

A DISTURBING video circulating on social media has reignited concerns over the dangers of hallucinogenic mushroom abuse after a teenager was seen writhing on the floor and vomiting inside a Malay warung.

The clip, shared on X, shows the youth appearing to lose control of his body as stunned diners look on.

Although the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially verified, some social media users speculated that he was under the influence of so-called “shrooms” or psychedelic mushrooms.

The video has since drawn concerns from many netizens who expressed their thoughts in the comment section.

Also, netizen madeinric0_wav shared that this was the effect of taking a very high dose of psychedelic mushrooms.

“I’ve seen three or four different people end up like this. When such a high dose enters the bloodstream all at once, it overwhelms the nervous system with these chemicals,” he added.

“Your emotions can change in a matter of seconds, and whatever you’re feeling becomes massively amplified. Once the user realises they can no longer control either their emotions or their physical movements, fear starts to set in. The chemicals intensify that fear to an extreme level. You become incredibly paranoid,” he pointed out.

According to madeinric0_wav, the high comes with hallucinations. Once the user is frightened, the drug makes him see those fears.

If the user imagines they’re about to die, they’ll experience terrifying visions of death, see the Angel of Death and so on.

“Hopefully the people who distribute it get hanged to death,” said @Rizal12X.

New Straits Times in an article dated 11 May this year reported that the abuse of magic mushrooms among teenagers as young as 13 has raised concern, with records showing 61 inmates currently undergoing treatment at the National Anti-Drug Agency’s addiction rehabilitation centres nationwide.

Psilocybin or magic mushrooms, is a synthetic drug processed in liquified form to be inhaled through electronic cigarettes or vape, for their hallucinogenic effects.

They are also psychedelic drugs, which can affect all the senses, altering a person’s thinking, sense of time and emotions.

While the exact cause of the teenager’s condition in the viral video remains unconfirmed, the footage serves as a sobering reminder that experimenting with unknown substances can have frightening and potentially life-threatening consequences.

Rather than treating such incidents as entertainment for social media, they should prompt serious conversations among parents, educators and young Malaysians about drug awareness, peer pressure and the real dangers that can lie behind viral trends. —July 6, 2026
