PAKATAN Harapan candidate for the Puteri Wangsa state seat, Dr Maszlee Malik recently questioned the choice of having the Johor election now, at a time when Malaysia was experiencing an economic crisis.
“There is a need for a representative from BN to explain to the people what is the justification and need, when the people are struggling with life, and the country is currently in an economic crisis and is trying to help the people, “ he said, adding that suddenly BN wants to host an election.
According to him, the excuse was that they needed a stronger mandate from the people and to gain stability when those two values have already been achieved.
Maszlee attributed this to greed and that if they win big, someone will be freed. He refrained from naming the individual in question but the identity of the person is clear to all.
To recap, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib, son of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said that a landslide BN victory in the 11 July Johor state election would signal that the rakyat still support his father and want him to receive a royal pardon.
“Where is our honor?” Maszlee pointed out, further stating that the election was just to satisfy the desires of a certain group of people.
He said the people wanted stability, the ability to buy a house, good education from the children and a lower cost of living.
On another note, the Malaysian Highway Authority expects traffic on highways, particularly routes leading into Johor, to increase ahead of the Johor state election polling day on 11 July 2026, with more than 300,000 outstation voters expected to return to cast their ballots.
To ensure smoother traffic flow and safer journeys, lane closure works on highways will be suspended on polling day, except for emergency works.
Motorists travelling along the North-South Expressway between Simpang Renggam and Senai (North) were advised to be careful due to third lane expansion works.—July 8, 2026
