Philips expands Malaysia’s presence as connected security gains ground in smart home sector

PHILIPS smart lock is making a deeper push into Malaysia as demand for connected security technologies accelerates, driven by changing expectations around how homes are designed, managed and secured.

The roll-out of Philips smart lock 902MFVP and 720FVP at ARCHIDEX 2026 – an architecture and interior design showcase happening at MITEC Kuala Lumpur from tomorrow (July 29) to Aug 1 – marks a strategic move to strengthen the brand’s presence in Malaysia’s growing smart home sector.

This is a market segment where homeowners and property developers are exploring digital solutions that improve security, convenience and everyday living experiences.

The expansion is supported by CONEX, Philips brand licensee for smart locks which combines Philips’ global brand equity with its own capabilities in smart access technology, product development and local market execution.

Beyond introducing two new models, Philips smart lock is responding to changing expectations in residential security where traditional locks are increasingly being replaced by intelligent access systems that offer greater control, identity verification and real-time visibility.

Connected living is new norm

Malaysia’s adoption of connected home technologies is gaining momentum, supported by digitalisation, urban development and changing expectations among home-owners.

Consumers are seeking technologies that enhance safety, convenience and household management, particularly as digital lifestyles become more integrated into everyday routines.

Within this sector, residential security has emerged as one of the fastest-developing segments.

Demand for biometric authentication, remote access management and monitoring capabilities reflects a fundamental change in consumer behaviour – from simply securing a property to having greater awareness and control over their living environment.

The shift is also influencing the property industry. Developers are placing greater emphasis on technology-enabled features as part of residential projects as buyers place greater importance on homes that support future lifestyles.

As a result, intelligent access systems are becoming a critical component of future housing developments.

Strategic partnership

For Philips smart lock, Malaysia is becoming an increasingly important market within Southeast Asia’s expanding connected living sector.

The partnership between Philips and CONEX brings together two complementary strengths – Philips’ global brand recognition and CONEX’s expertise in smart access technology, product development and local market requirements.

Rather than focusing solely on retail distribution, the Dutch multinational technology group is building relationships across the wider property and construction value chain, including developers, architects, interior designers, distributors and system integrators.

As connected home adoption matures, companies are increasingly investing beyond product development by strengthening user experience, after-sales support and customer engagement to build long-term market confidence.

“Malaysia is one of the important markets for Philips smart lock in Southeast Asia,” enthused CONEX’s general manager Aaron Ma.

“Through product innovation, professional installation services and stronger industry partnerships, we hope to enable more Malaysian households to experience the benefits of intelligent home security.”

With Philips smart lock solutions adopted by more than 2.5 million households worldwide, the brand enters Malaysia with an established international user base and strong consumer familiarity.

The milestone provides Philips smart lock with additional credibility as it expands into new markets where consumers are transitioning from conventional locking systems towards digitally connected alternatives.

For Malaysian households, this means access to internationally recognised technology supported by installation expertise, technical assistance and service capabilities tailored to local needs. – July 28, 2026
