MUSLIM leaders and movements that carry the name of Islam have been urged to reduce disputes and political wrangling so that attention can instead be focused on efforts to strengthen and bring glory to the ummah.
Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said the energy and efforts of Muslim leaders should be channelled towards supporting and assisting positive initiatives in Islamic education, the Islamic economy and Islamic finance, the halal industry, waqf, digital da’wah and strengthening family institutions.
He said this was important at a time when Muslims are facing the challenge of division caused by differences in politics, schools of thought, race and interests, as well as the lure of influence, status, positions, wealth and worldly luxuries.
“It is most encouraging and something for which we should be grateful that while leaders and political factions choose to compete and quarrel, there are also individuals and groups pioneering positive initiatives, promoting and raising awareness of Islamic education, the Islamic economy, Islamic finance, the halal industry, waqf, digital da’wah and the strengthening of family institutions,” he reportedly said by Sinar Harian.
Sultan Nazrin said this in conjunction with the Perak Darul Ridzuan State-level Maulidur Rasul 1448H celebration at the Casuarina Convention Centre today.
Sultan Nazrin also reminded Muslims that the unity of the ummah is facing major challenges as the spirit of brotherhood is increasingly being sidelined by differences and interests that take precedence over the values of ukhuwah.
He said Muslim identity and the identity of the ummah must be strengthened to ensure that Muslims are able to navigate the changing times without losing their direction and guidance.
According to him, Muslim identity is not merely about clothing, slogans or appearance, but stems from principles, faith, knowledge and morals that are reflected in everyday life.
He also called on every member of society and every family to fulfil their respective responsibilities effectively in order to produce a community with a strong sense of identity, noble character, broad knowledge and firm convictions.—Aug 25, 2026
