BELOW are excerpts of viewpoints from two selected research houses on what investors can expect in the day ahead:
Berjaya Research
The FBM KLCI extended its slide to close marginally above the 1,600 psychological level as the dour performance largely mirrors the broad-based weakness across regional peers.
Market breadth remained negative as total traded volume declined to 3.5 billion shares as traders opt to stay at the sidelines till stability emerge.
We expect market sentiment to remain cautious ahead of the tabling of Budget 2027 later today with investors likely to assess the government’s fiscal direction, growth initiatives and sector-specific measures for potential market catalysts.
Meanwhile, investors should also monitor the release of Malaysia’s industrial production, retail sales and unemployment rate data later today which could provide further clues on the underlying strength of domestic economic activity.
The higher oil prices could potentially trigger greater buying interests within oil & gas (O&G) stocks following the supply disruption from the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricane Isaias moves toward the Alabama, Mississippi and Florida Panhandle coasts while Iran has ramped up attacks on tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In the near term, the FBM KLCI could continue to trade in a volatile and cautious manner as investors await greater clarity on domestic policy developments as well as the rising bond yields.
The immediate resistances are located at 1,630-1,640 points. Should the 1,600 psychological support give way, the next supports are at 1,580 points, followed by 1,570 points.
Malacca Securities Research
Budget 2027 takes centre stage today with investors monitoring measures to support strategic industries and household spending.
UWC Bhd could attract attention after proposing a placement of up to 5% of its issued shares to raise RM384.1 mil for manufacturing expansion, working capital and debt repayment, although potential EPS (earnings per share) dilution remains a concern.
Dagang NeXchange Bhd could benefit from resolving its long-standing dispute with the CGP Fund over SilTerra, thus removing a key legal overhang.
Meanwhile, Life Water Bhd has proposed a RM15 mil industrial property acquisition in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park to support its expansion.
Additionally, 99 Speed Mart Retail Holdings Bhd could benefit from higher SARA and STR (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah) allocations under Budget 2027 which could potentially boost spending at value retailers.
The FBM KLCI remains below key moving averages. Momentum indicators suggest that selling pressure may be easing, supported by a rounding bottom formation in the MACD and the RSI hovering near oversold territory.
Key resistance lies at 1,616-1,631 while near-term support is expected around 1,571-1,586. – Oct 9, 2026
