Rafizi’s double surprises while recording statement in Bukit Aman; a police report by a minister

BERSAMA co-leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli was in for double surprises when he went to record his statement at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman yesterday (Nov 3).

The first surprise was regarding the individual who had lodged a report against over allegations that RM9.5 mil was given by a businessman to a certain minister.

The usual political modus operandi in Malaysia is to get the political lackeys or non-government organisations to lodge reports.

The person who lodged the police report happened to be Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan himself, Rafizi revealed during a ceramah in Taman Rambai Jaya in Paya Rumput state constituency last night.

He remembered when he exposed multiple scandals ranging from 1MDB to Tabung Haji the reports were made by NGOs, UMNO members or minister’s aides.

Taking a shot at Ramanan, he said now he understood why Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim loved Ramanan. Ramanan worked  hard and took the trouble to lodge the report himself.

The former PKR deputy president added that it would have been easier for Ramanan if the latter sued the former instead of hiding behind the police force.

The second surprise in store for the Yang Berhenti Menteri (YBM) podcast host was the second police report was lodged by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in March this year on behalf its then chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

In a particular YBM episode, Rafizi revealed that the report about Azam owning shares in multiple companies was tabled in the cabinet. The report was supposed to be made public but it never saw the light of the day.

The former economy minister also revealed some damaging news related to businessman Datuk Seri Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

Farhash who is closely linked to Anwar had obtained an injunction against international media house Bloomberg over a report that has not been published.

The businessman obtained the injunction on the basis that the report was defamatory and potentially disrupt the nation’s peace.

Lawyers representing Anwar’s former political aide from Messrs Ahmad Deniel, Ruben & Co were reported to have said that the draft article contained statements and allegations that were false, baseless and defamatory.

Bloomberg contacted both Anwar and Farhash for comments on the report.

Rafizi claimed that Bloomberg’s unpublished report provides details into Farhash’s interference in enforcement bodies, government contracts, appointments of senior official to key government positions and related criminal activities.

The case involving Farhash and Bloomberg will be heard on Nov 16, two days after Melaka state election. ‒ Nov 4, 2026
