MRT1 sees several discrepancies, says AG report

THE Mass Rapid Transit 1 (MRT1) rail system saw several discrepancies in its management, according to a review done by the National Audit Department.

These discrepancies were part of the Auditor-General’s Report 2018 Series 3 tabled in Parliament on July 13, which measured the performance of 10 ministries across several projects, with MRT1 being one of the major issues found.

Under the review, which was presented to the press today by Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, it was found that MRT1 has four work system packages which are not fully utilised and have problems during operation and 85 repairs that have not been completed despite the defect liability period having ended six months prior.

Also found was that the Computerised Maintenance Management System was not being fully utilised, and that the electric trains used were late between 5 minutes to 110 minutes on 137 occurrences between January 2017 to January 2019.

As it stands, the National Audit Department also found that the use of maintenance and repair was not satisfactory, and that there is no way to determine the resolution date of over 2,000 complaints that were made. – July 14, 2020
