THE Ministry of Finance has terminated Prasarana non-executive chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, which he did not seem to mind, based on his indifferent response reported in Malay Mail.
“Want to terminate, terminate then. What is the issue? What is the matter? Want to terminate, terminate lah. Thank you lah. I can do other work” he said over the phone to a Malay Mail reporter when contacted.
He also had this to say when this reporter identified her organisation: “Malay Mail? Isn’t Malay Mail dead already?”
According to the news portal, the termination letter (included below) comes on the heels of a public campaign calling for the sacking of Tajuddin after his disastrous handling of a press conference yesterday to address the Monday two-train collision on the LRT Kelana Jaya line at KLCC that injured over 200 passengers, including six in critical condition.
It was reported that the government-linked company offered the victims of the crash a compensation amount of RM1,000, which sparked public anger among netizens.
“RM 1,000? What a joke, Prasarana. semoga semua affected buka file, saman Prasarana. gila apa, (I hope everyone sues Prasarana). Imagine the physical damage caused. not just physical, the mental trauma of stepping into a train again,” said user Danial.
In fact, even Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng had something to say over the matter.
“I would advise all 213 passengers in the train to accept the RM1,000 initial compensation, but not sign any document that later excludes them from pursuing further claims of losses caused by the accident,” he said in a statement released earlier today.
Meanwhile, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) urged the Government to investigate whether the LRT crash could have occurred due to human error, triggered by overworked personnel.
“The element of human error due overworked personnel must be probed. Malaysia is one of the most overworked country. This includes workers in government-linked agencies such as RapidKL.
“The manually driven LRT had been mistakenly inserted into the wrong trackway by the central control centre. Overworked personnel are prone to make such errors and mistakes,” said its central committee member Sharan Raj in a statement. – May 26, 2021
