PEMUDA Sosialis has condemned PDRM’s investigation into the healthcare workers backing the Code Black and Black Monday campaign.
The youth wing of the Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM), in a press statement, said that it saw the investigation as a form of intimidation against doctors who voiced their frustration for a system that had oppressed them.
“Doctors have the right to speak, and freedom of speech is enshrined under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution,” said Pemuda Sosialis secretary Gandipan Nantha Gopalan.
“We would like to urge the police to halt all investigations and intimidation of healthcare workers involved in the campaign.
“We are of the view that the police need to focus more on conducting investigations into politicians and ministers who do not comply with COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) instead.”
The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and allied healthcare workers organisations have been pushing the Government to increase the number of permanent positions for contract doctors for some time now.
They argued that the lack of permanent positions makes it difficult to create new medical specialists amid personnel shortage, and drives potential doctors away from the country to seek better prospects elsewhere.
It is estimated that 15,000 healthcare workers have come out in support of the campaigns on social media since their launch. Black Monday took place earlier this week following a 12-day duration for Code Black. – July 14, 2021
