Morning markets, hair salons among 11 activities now allowed under Phase 1 of NRP

THE Government has released a new list of allowed activities and businesses permitted to operate from Monday (Aug 16) in states under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

According to the announcement made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin earlier today (Aug 15) those who wish to use the businesses must be fully vaccinated.

Individuals would be considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the second dose of either the Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Sinovac vaccines, and 28 days after being jabbed with the single-dose Johnson & Johnson or CanSino vaccines.

The 11 types of businesses allowed to operate are:

  1. Carwash services
  2. Electrical and electronic shops
  3. Household and kitchen supply shops
  4. Furniture shops
  5. Sports shops
  6. Car accessory shops
  7. Car dealerships
  8. Morning and farmers’ markets
  9. Clothing shops
  10. Jewellery stores
  11. Hair salons and barbershops

The government also said that additional standard operating procedures for clothing, fashion and accessory stores, jewellery stores and hair salons will be implemented.

In his statement, Muhyiddin further announced that these SOPs will include the wearing of gloves, the limiting of time between workers and customers and no usage of fitting rooms.

“Only those with complete digital vaccination certificates are allowed to access these businesses for their services,” he said.

Business owners are also compelled to inspect the digital vaccination certificate of patrons.

Meanwhile, those in Phase 1 regions will also be allowed to perform outdoor exercises and visit neighbourhood parks.

Regions under Phase 1 of the NRP are Johor, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya and Selangor. – Aug 15, 2021.
