Malay NGO: Congratulations Ismail Sabri, now get cracking on the economy!

THE MALAY Consultative Council (MPM) urged newly-minted Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob restore the people and investors’ confidence on the economy, which has been going south lately.

“We are counting on you. Restore our confidence to the national leadership which has been abysmal for so long.

“You also need to restore confidence among investors and foreign fund managers so that Malaysia can be on top of its game again, in terms of the economy and capital markets. When confidence is restored, only then we can embark on other remedial measures,” its secretary general Datuk Hasan Mad told FocusM.

Earlier today, Ismail Sabri was sworn in as the 9th Prime Minister of Malaysia, in front of Yang di-Pertuan Agong al-Sultan Abdullah Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Shah.

He took oath at the Istana Negara at 2.30pm, in an event which was aired live on national television stations and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official Facebook page.

On that note, Hasan also urged Ismail Sabril to implement the bumiputra agenda comprehensively across the nation, without excluding it from the national development policy.

“For that, it is best if we can transform the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV) to become the National Prosperity Agenda, with the Bumiputra agenda serving as its backbone, instead of keeping the policies separated in its current form,” he opined.

Reduce Cabinet size

On related matter, Hasan urged Ismail Sabri to shrink the size of the Cabinet, given that the country is already going through an economic malaise triggered by COVID-19.

While he understands that Perikatan Nasional allies may want plush Government jobs due to the support given to the premier, the non-governmental organisation leader said political leaders must spend taxpayers’ money prudently given the current economic situation.

“And while Istana Negara has called for a unity Government, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to co-opt the Opposition into the Government.

“Even within the Perikatan ranks, there are capable candidates hailing from diverse racial and religious background to form a unity pact to help you steer the country forward,” Hasan remarked. – Aug 21. 2021.
