YESTERDAY, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alleged that elite Malays, running into thousands, were gambling at gaming outlets across the country.
In a speech at the Dewan Rakyat, he said that the elite Malays were lured to join as club members by rich businesspeople and took the authorities to task for turning a blind eye over it.
“Their numbers reach tens of thousands, and make up 45% of the overall membership in these 62 clubs. This is happening under the watch of a Malay-Muslim Government.
“There appears to be attempts to block this information from reaching the public,” the Port Dickson MP charged.
However, the public were not too impressed with Anwar’s claims on several reasons; one is that the opposition leader was merely stating the obvious.
Netizen Rahmat Leong said in a jest: “If no gambling who is going to pay those allowances to those Lobai’s (religious leaders).”
Another group of users, on the other hand, criticised Anwar for not paying attention on real issues affecting Malaysians; sluggish economy which is driving a lot of people to the unemployment line.
Anwar’s “gambles” failed
Netizen James Quah added: “Moral policing is a sign the politicians are either not interested in nation building or have no idea what they are supposed to be doing.
“Instead of looking at big issues like plugging the massive financial leakages and find new ways to move the country forward, they resort to moral policing.”
On that note, one user “accused” Anwar of gambling too; mocking the leader for his failure to ascend the premiership despite repeated claims of securing enough support. – Nov 2, 2021.
