Veteran journalist Colin Forsythe dies due to lymphoma

VETERAN newsman Colin Nicholas Forsythe passed away yesterday after a year-long battle with lymphoma.

He was 62. 

Colin leaves behind a wife, three children and eight grandchildren. 

According to Nabalu News, the veteran journalist had contributed a lot to the Sabah media, dedicating 40 years of life to the industry. 

In a Facebook post, his son Christopher said that his father had remained steady and strong during his battle with the disease. 

“And I thank you Dad, for all the lessons and guidance you gave me since I was young no matter how hard and stern you were with me,” said Christopher, who is an artist in the local ink industry. 

Tributes started pouring in from veteran Sabah politicians such as Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili.

“My deepest sympathies to his family. Let the memories provide comfort in your journey through this loss. Sending my prayers and support to you and your family during this difficult time,” Maximus wrote on his Facebook. 

United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau added that he was saddened by Colin’s passing. 

“I am saddened to hear the passing of a veteran journalist who passed away around 6pm just now. I have known [Colin] since 1985. Rest in peace,” the Tuaran MP stated. 

In his illustrious career, Colin had served as correspondent for various media agencies such as the Daily Express, New Sabah Times, Borneo Bulletin and New Straits Times. 

He was also the founder of news portal, Borneo Today. 

In addition, Colin had also served as a media officer to former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal. – Nov 2, 2021.
