COVID-19: 5,594 new cases, death tally at 30,110

MALAYSIA has recorded 5,594 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday (Nov 23), an increase from the 4,885 cases reported on the day before.

This brings the cumulative infections in the country to 2,597,080.

In a statement, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham said that of the new COVID-19 cases, 5,509 (98.5%) were mild and asymptomatic infections in Categories one and two, while the remaining 85 (1.5%) were from Categories three, four and five.

Categories one and two refer to patients with mild symptoms or none at all, category three refers to patients with pneumonia, while patients in categories four and five require oxygen and need ventilators, respectively.

Meanwhile, according to the CovidNow website, 4,908 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 2,498,345.

There were 47 deaths, including 10 that were brought in dead (BID), thus bringing the death tally to 30,110.

Of the current cases, 532 cases required treatment in intensive care units (ICU) and 266 cases needed respiratory assistance. – Nov 24, 2021
