MALAYSIAN Bar president Kalidas Krishnan questioned on why the Government was being tardy in addressing Attorney-General (AG) Tan Sri Idrus Harun’s tenure, which expires today.
“Why the delay in the announcement, given that the AG is such an important position?” Free Malaysia Today reported Kalidas as questioning.
Idrus was appointed the post on March 2020 on a two-year contract. His term expires today (March 6).
He was a former Federal Court judge and once served as solicitor-general, as well as legal adviser to the Election Commission (EC) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
He is also the brother of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.
On that note, Kalidas said it would be prudent for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to advise the King soon on the matter and appoint a successor in the event of a vacancy, or extend Idrus’ tenure.
Yesterday (March 5), Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar refused to comment on the matter when contacted by The Vibes.
“I cannot confirm anything. Even if I’m involved, it is not up to me to make the announcement because the prime minister will be the one to do so,” he was reported as saying. – March 6, 2022
