IN an apparent attempt to “whitewash” Parti Pejuang Tanah Air’s humiliating defeat at the Johor state election, its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad claimed they because the party has no money to “buy voters”.
According to Astro Awani, the former prime minister alleged that several parties including UMNO has offered RM200 to voters to cast their ballots in the favour.
“Pejuang has no money and when we called voters to vote for us, they asked us how much are we willing to give?
“We told them Pejuang don’t do such things as we are fighting for our race and religion. So, we lost but how long will that RM200 last?” the Langkawi MP was reported as asking.
However, Mahathir’s comments were met with amusement from netizens who then urged the nonagenarian to stop his drivel and retire peacefully.
UMNO supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said:
(Is this based on your post-mortem? The last I heard you guys said it was because people couldn’t recognise your logo but now it’s about not being able to buy votes. Sigh…)
Echoing Ahmad Shabery’s statement, user Haza Abdullah added:
(The last excuse was people did not recognise their logo. A week later it was because too much focus on corruption issue. Now, it’s monetary issues. In another two weeks, he will come up with something else. Perhaps we can have a contest on coming up with new excuses on why Pejuang lost. The last one will be blamed on Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak)
Netizen Mohd Abdul Halim retorted:
(A billionaire who has no money. Mahathir keeps saying he sacrificed a lot for the country but it looks more like he sacrificed the country to enrich his children)
No one wants Pejuang
In the recently concluded Johor polls, Barisan Nasional won two-thirds majority in the state government, just like in Melaka.
Pejuang, in its maiden electoral attempt, lost all 42 seats contested in the state. All of their candidates lost deposits too as they failed to secure the minimum votes as stipulated under the electoral laws.
Soon after loss, Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said his party lost as people still did not recognise their logo.
On that note, user Zull Hass told Mahathir that voters were looking for parties with good track record, not the same veterans sitting in a new party.
Mohamad Ramli Kamardin retorted:
(The analysis is simple. No one wants Pejuang) – March 31, 2022
