THE Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) will abide by the decree issued by Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah that the department cannot issue any statement regarding the decisions made by the Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI), its director-general Hakimah Mohd Yusoff said.
Hakimah said she as MKI’s secretary has noted and will abide by Sultan Sharafuddin’s statement, issued in his capacity as the council’s chairperson yesterday.
“JAKIM, as the MKI secretariat, will always abide by the council’s rules and instructions of the council chairperson,” she said, in a statement today.
Sultan Sharafuddin had said yesterday that JAKIM could not issue any statement regarding decisions made by the council as any statement regarding decisions made by the council was under the jurisdiction of the Muzakarah committee, the MKI and the Conference of Rulers.
He added that Jakim only acted as the secretariat to the Muzakarah committee and MKI. – April 10, 2022.
