THE police denied that there was a celebration for Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in Johor after a video went viral on TikTok.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the video was found on Saturday (Aug 26) purportedly showing a crowd welcoming Sanusi in Johor.
However, the video is related to the ‘KL Munajat’ programme with Tuan Guru Abdul Somad, Sheikh Aleey Qodir At-thohiri and Nur Ahli Badar located at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on July 15.
“The video has been edited to include the chant ‘Luaskan Kuasamu Johor’ for sharing by other social media users,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Social media users on Saturday were already pointing to the appearance of known KL landmarks in the video to say it was a fake video of Sanusi in Johor.
After Sanusi’s visit, Perikatan Nasional (PN) was asked to state the ideas and solutions that the party wants to highlight in the Pulai parliament by-election and the Simpang Jeram state legislative assembly (DUN), instead of being seen as just playing with perceptions.
UMNO Youth vice-chairman Mohd Hairi Md Shah claimed that PN elections director-general Sanusi was only trying to influence the people to conduct an ‘experiment’ in the state during the by-elections.
He stressed that Johor does not need such an ‘experiment’ because the administration for the past 17 months under the state government has now seen various efforts and initiatives implemented.
During his visit to Johor, Sanusi said that a PN wave is sweeping the country, is now unable to be stopped and has also advanced to the southern states including Johor.
He added that there were signs that PN is confident that it will cause a surprise in the by-elections of the Pulai parliament and the Simpang Jeram DUN.
“The reception was unexpected. Awesome! If there are that many people in Johor (giving support to PN) there is great hope (to win), especially in Simpang Jeram.”
Prior to that, the fake video lasted two minutes and six seconds and went viral with the caption ‘MB Sanusi’s wave when it comes down to Johor, stand up friends in Johor’.
On the other hand, those who post such fake videos can be prosecuted under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code which provides for a fine or imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both, if convicted. – Aug 27, 2023
