Abu Tariq replaces Mohd Nizom as new Inland Revenue Board CEO effective Dec 17

THE Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has appointment its Deputy CEO (Compliance) Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin as its new CEO effective yesterday (Dec 17).

He replaces Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Nizom Sairi whose service contract expired on Dec 16, 2023. Mohd Nizom was appointed as IRB’s CEO effective Oct 19, 2021.

“All-in, Mohd Nizom, 61, has served the board for 38 years and has contributed substantially to the organisation’s excellence,” IRB pointed out in a media statement.

“Among his significant contributions was to introduce the concept of AES (Awareness, Education and Services) to strengthen the delivery of services. This aims to re-build the confidence of the country’s direct tax system.

“Additionally, IRB under the leadership of Mohd Nizom recorded the highest direct tax collection in the country’s history at RM175.4 bil in 2022.”

Meanwhile, Abu Tariq who holds a Bachelor of Law with Honours (LLB. Hons) from Universiti Malaya began serving IRB in March 15, 1995 and had extensive experience in direct taxation matters, including legal and tax compliance.

Prior to being appointed to his Deputy CEO (Compliance) portfolio, Abu Tariq also held several important positions in IRB, including the post of deputy CEO (policy) and director of the legal department.

“With his extensive experience, Abu Tariq will certainly enable IRB to achieve its vision of becoming a top tax administrator in line with the aspiration of building Malaysia for the well-being of the people,” added IRB. – Dec 18, 2023
